Learn About The Connection Between Wine And Weight Loss

By Polly Perrot

Most people know about the good and bad effects of wine to our health. A lot of people also know that women are basically recommended to drink a maximum of four ounces of wine daily. Men, on the other hand, are recommended to drink twice that amount.

There is a fact though that not a lot of people know about and that is the research finding that women who drink 1 to 2 glasses of wine every day have gained less weight in 13 years compared to women who do not drink alcohol at all. This finding implies that 1 to 2 small glasses is alright for woman as far as weight gain is concerned. Keep in mind that moderate drinking is the key to successfully achieving all the benefits of wine to your health.

Even if you are not into alcoholic drinks, you should consider drinking wine because it has much less calories compared to most alcoholic beverages. Dry and semi dry wines have an average of 80 to 85 calories in every serving. Red wines generally have an average of 90 to 95 calories per serving. Sweeter types of wines have even more calories in every serving (which is not surprising at all).

Regular beer has more calories than wine. There are around 140 to 200 calories in every 12 ounce serving of regular beer. For light beers, there are around 100 calories per 12 ounces. Most people drink a lot of beer in one sitting and this means that the calories they take in are soaring. As for stronger types of alcohol such as whiskey, rum, vodka and brandy, there are around 100 to 125 calories in every 1.5 ounce. For gin and tonic, there is an average of 280 calories in every glass.

Knowing these facts, people are very partial to wine. People who want to keep a healthy lifestyle without totally letting go of alcoholic drinks choose to drink wine. Wine drinkers are lucky because the low calorie content of wine means that they do not need drastic alterations in their diet to enjoy a single serving of wine. If you are trying to lose weight, you should know that having a glass of wine daily won't ruin your efforts. Drink wine without feeling guilty afterwards!
